2017 Chehalem Mountains Pinot Noir
From the first pour, this Chehalem Mountains blend seems to continuously evolve keeping you intrigued start to finish. Bold yet bright with introductions of lush pie cherries and black tea evolving into blackberries and spice. The palate structure has a full presence that shows weight yet is delicate with silky tannins and crisp acid. A Pinot Noir that is drinkable now or can be laid down for years.
The 2017 vintage is one of the most well-balanced of the last five years, with excellent quality of flavor and acidity levels, and yields bearing higher than normal in all varieties. Fruitfulness caused some problems early on from larger berries on full clusters, which led to a bit of uneven ripening. Early season powdery mildew, due to a wet spring, led to in-field sorting early in the growing season. By harvest, blocks were in pristine condition. Ideal fall temperatures allowed us to pick based on flavor development.
